Specialists in felt since 2004 here at Amica we love designing and producing quintessential, fun & unique handmade, fair trade felt gifts and Christmas Decorations.
Everything you find on our website is designed at our studio in Bristol, then made with great skill and to the highest quality by a fantastic team of Fair Trade craftspeople in Nepal.
In Bristol we are a small team focused on creating fantastic ideas and keeping our furry friends supplied to our loyal customers. Whether you chat to Jo on the phone, Julia & Jess at the shows or receive notes from our Christmas Elves in the warehouse; each person is vital in keeping this company ticking.
However, it is not just the Bristol office that is pivotal in the success of Amica. Many miles away in Nepal we work with a superb company that help us with the product development and creation of our items. It is this team that bring our ideas to life and make the wonderful critters our customers take home to their families.
When setting up Amica, social equality in the workplace was a priority for Julia. It is imperative that every person involved in making our items works in a clean & safe environment; is respected by every member of the business; earns a fair wage and is over the legal working age. We are proud to say that our supplier is a guaranteed member of the World Fair Trade Organization and was also the first Fair Trade USA certified company in Nepal!

Not one to enjoy writing a bio due to being ridiculously modest it is Jess here writing on behalf of Julia! "It sometimes seems like there’s nothing Julia hasn’t done. From selling Christmas Puddings & Clothing, to renovating houses, training horses, and finally setting up Amica Felt; taking it from its humble beginnings to what is now a recognised brand in the gift and homeware industry. Julia wanted to setup an ethically based company where she could use her love of animals to create a range of products which are both fun, Fair Trade and very collectable. I think it is safe to say that Julia’s favourite part of the whole process is designing the products, the crazier the better! Outside of the felt world you will find Julia in the garden or in France enjoying the sunshine knowing that the company is in safe hand with Jo and me. The future is exciting for Amica and with Julia steering the ship who knows where it will go!"
I love my job! It’s true - there is never a dull moment and every day there is always something to have a good belly laugh at! Plus our office is filled with all our felt critters and is the cutest office in the West Country - it’s official. My real passion is being creative, be it a new toy or Christmas decoration or a bespoke design for a customer and then just love seeing the 2D designs come to 3D life by our Samples Team of ladies in Nepal. The connection that we have with our Nepalese family is awesome. I think it’s fair to say I have landed on my feet working for Amica. Namaste my lovelies.
A chance meeting between my parents and Julia at Delhi airport as they shared a table while waiting for flights in opposite directions randomly lead to me becoming a part of the Amica family. Since 2015 I have been their representative here in Kathmandu, chivying along production, smoothing cultural barriers of understanding (not everyone after all knows what pigs in blankets are!), but mostly wearing a quality control hat to ensure that when an item goes into production, it comes out looking like the sample. If I were to enter Mastermind, my specialist subject would be the correct positioning of eyes and Christmas hats on felt animals!
Well I’m not quite sure where the time has gone but I have been with Amica now for 5 years! Some may argue my key role in the company is to ensure the office dogs (Ted & Archie) arrive on time ready for a day of patting and sleeping in front of the heater. When I’m not driving the dogs around you will find me behind the computer, keeping the warehouse in order, getting deliveries out to customers and attending the odd exhibition to show our products and catch up with our wonderful customers. Not a day goes by that we don’t have a good laugh in this office and coming to work really is a joy!
Saren has been part of the team in Nepal for many years having joined after graduating from college. Initially starting in the packing team boxing up and shipping deliveries around the world he has slowly worked his way up until the end of 2019 when he took charge of the Amica production. As you can imagine 2020 was quite a year to take over our account however Saren did a fantastic job guiding us and the production team to ensure all orders were fulfilled and delivered on time! Within a year Saren has already brought so much to the table that we can't wait to see what we do together as a team.
